The new history of the Lodge Kopanina started in April 2015, when the SUNDISK Company and both of its executives decided to take part in the planned auction of this building and adjacent estate. The decision was purely emotional. The relationship that the employees of the company and their families had to the building was nostalgic, many of us used to visit the Lodge in our teenage years for the Friday dances or Sunday lunches, or for the famous ice-cream sundae, which was renowned far and wide.

Approximately since 2010 we had been watching with worries the situation with Kopanina, for the owners at that time seemed to have only one goal – to devastate the building as much as possible, as well as the properties around. Also the quality of the assortment of meals and services went rapidly down. Then, information about an increased level of criminality in the vicinity occurred and everyone who saw the interior of the building “decorated” by strange paintings on the walls, which were probably created during the drug sessions held by the owners, knew that it was not going well with Kopanina.

Luckily, we successfully bought the Lodge in the auction and in the middle of May 2015 we started the complex reconstruction of the building with the goal to open it, although with a limited operation, for the public. The first thing needed was to clean the piles of mess, threw away the broken furniture, rubbish, rags and suchlike. The only things which didn’t have to be replaced in the building were the heating, pipes, metal lids or electric lines – they were completely missing. In fact, there wasn’t even one metal object in the whole building – everything probably ended in the scrap yard. After the reconstruction of the roof, gutters and drainpipes were repaired the cesspit, well and water pipes and was installed new electricity for the cellar and the whole ground floor, and then sanitation and disinfection, some building operations, painting the walls and ceilings, reconstruction of the hall and floors, new windows, frontage…and then some design components a furniture, new bar and overall look of the pub, alternation of the surroundings of the lodge and also a little bit of gardening – well, it was really plenty of work which we had to do in the one month appointed for the reconstruction.  

But in the end everything was done in time and the Lodge Kopanina was opened in the end of June. What’s still missing is a large kitchen, where we want to prepare the tasty Sunday lunches again…but we can already serve you with homemade soups from our Pub in Křížky in Malá Skála and on the spot we serve simple meals and homemade ice-cream sundaes with choice of eight different types of ice-cream.

In the following years we would like to invest in a modern kitchen and reconstruct the first floor and attic, where we plan to make rooms for accommodation (apropos, with a wonderful view on the Bohemian Paradise, Kozákov and Trosky!).
